Great place to stay in the middle of everything. Parked the car and walked the city. |We had a 2 level suite on the second floor overlooking the courtyard. |1st level bedroom and full bath. Comfy bed.|2nd level sitting area with sofa bed, half bath and full kitchen. |Would be good for family with children or 2 couples.||

Highly recommend this hotel!!! It provided everything we could want for our 3-day stay in Charleston. From when we first stepped in and saw the beautiful staircase and cobblestone flooring, we felt immersed in Charleston culture. There’s an outside courtyard with water fountain that added to the beauty of the whole place. ||We were greeted efficiently and went to our room one floor up. All rooms are entered from the second floor and are 2 floors inside so you will need to be able to go up stairs once in the room. We entered into a kitchen and sitting area and half bath and the bedroom and full bath were upstairs. Walk-in closet by beds to put luggage and very large closet in bathroom to put all our toiletries. The beds were very comfortable and we even had a balcony overlooking the market. The housekeeping staff was so incredibly friendly and helpful. Exceptional team there. The room was very clean and outside as well, as we saw them wiping down the wood trim in the hallways. Our room was updated and beautifully decorated. There were minor things, if one is looking for perfection, but I won’t even mention because they didn’t take anything away from our stay in the room. Housekeeping would be free on the 3rd day we were there so we didn’t get it, but anything we needed (toilet paper, towels) was provided as soon as we asked. The front desk even happily held our luggage after checkout. ||The location is right in the center of the historic district and across the street from the market, additional stores, many eateries and historical locations. We walked most places. There is not anything else I could think of that we would have wanted. This place provided it all and we are very happy we chose it.

Friendly staff, extremely comfortable bed and fully equipped kitchen. Location is excellent-close to everything but quiet. It’s a quirky little hotel that adds to the French Quarter vibe. IMPORTANT: rooms are 2-levels. LR, Kit, 1/2 bath then sleeping is up a flight of stairs.|Recommend and would stay again.

Staying at the Church Street Inn was a mixed bag for our recent stay.|Let's start with the 5-star aspects of our stay: |1. Ciara, front-desk receptionist was friendly, informed, and went out of her way to make our stay wonderful. (and she shared with us her choice for the best shrimp and grits - right across the street)|2. Location/location/location| The Church Street Inn was in the perfect spot to explore and enjoy all that Charleston has to offer. Excellent restaurants (lots of them) nearby, Charleston Market across the street, and all kinds of entertainment/tours right outside the front door. Perfect for those of us without a car.|3. The outside garden was beautiful. We found ourselves relaxing by the fountain, reading our books and relaxing after a long day of sight-seeing.|4. We liked having a kitchen to make morning coffee.|5. The beds were comfy.||Now the not-so-good (2 star rating):|1. The room was very dated and looked like it hadn't been refurnished or updated since the Inn was built in the 1980s. Towel racks were loose and hanging by a thread, the coffee table was sticky from overuse, cords exposed, and carpet truly ugly and dirty. |2. Even though we asked for maid service to make up our room the first full day we were there, we were disappointed that nothing had been done while we were out. We did ask again the next day and were happy to have our room made-up.|3. The bedroom was up a very steep flight of stairs. Even though we saw in the description that the rooms were "townhouse style" we were dismayed by the difficulty of climbing them. We were grateful that we were able to make it up and down safely. And the lighting above the stairs was linked to a switch by the kitchen. Luckily, we brought flashlights and were able to navigate the stairs after turning off the lights down below. And carrying suitcases up the stairs was a difficult task. (I realize that the Inn can't change the steepness of the stairs, but it certainly should be mentioned in the description of the Inn and the rooms.)|4. Not sure how clean everything was. Didn't smell musty, but didn't smell good, either. And the shabbiness of the rooms added to the impression that it wasn't clean.|5. Bathroom was tiny.||All-in-all we're glad we stayed at the Church Street Inn because of the location, but we'll look elsewhere next time we visit Charleston. The negatives far outweighed the positives for us.||PS The photos listed on TripAdvisor didn't reflect our experience or our room.

If you need room service, a bar/restaurant in your hotel or a modern room this hotel is not for you. If you like having knowledgeable front desk assistance and a hotel with a great location and don't mind an older property this is perfect. We stayed 4 nights with our adult daughter and having the two stories was great. A small kitchen and half bath downstairs with a pull out was perfect. Upstairs a full bath, two beds, large closet and dresser met our needs. The hotel was clean and anything we needed during our stay we could get at the front desk.||The hotel was located across from the City Market and we walked almost everywhere during our stay. Ubers and Lyfts were easily accessible. We would stay here again to enjoy this beautiful city.

My three friends and I just returned home from a week in Charleston, and we stayed at Church Street Inn. We had never stayed anywhere downtown before, but we did extensive research and made a few calls to hotels before booking. Jaden, the young man at the front desk who answered my initial call last August, was so informative, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable that he quickly made quite the impression on me. Then he made sure I was a Choice member and told me what the discount would be for the stay. I booked it, 8 months in advance. When we checked in, he was at the front desk, along with Daylin. BOTH were so helpful, from the check in process, to parking, to downtown information, and hotel information. I could not have asked for a better check-in experience. The hotel was exactly as I had learned in my research. Yes, it is a bit aged, however, it was in tip top shape as far as everything we saw. Yes, our room had an upstairs and a downstairs. Was this a surprise to me and my 70 year old friends? No! We knew what we had signed up for! The room was immaculate, as was the lobby, the courtyard area, the hallway, and all the rooms that were being cleaned each day (we could see through open doors). The smell of "CLEAN" was throughout the hotel. The housekeeping staff was so friendly - I have never been as glad as anything to see and experience FRIENDLY, SMILING faces - the front desk workers and housekeepers alike were a breath of fresh air. They seemed to LIKE their jobs - and EACH OTHER! Maybe they don't, I don't know, but all we witnessed was an extremely positive environment... and that meant EVERYTHING to us! - the rest of the working world seems to be consistently mad, tired, unfriendly, and ready to just go home! The location of the hotel could not be better for downtown activities and shopping, the beds and pillows were very comfy, but I can tell you - it's the PEOPLE who work there that make the DIFFERENCE, and makes me know why it's so successful. Thanks for a wonderfully enjoyable week - Jaden, Daylin, Ciara, and all the housekeepers who never failed to say hello and made us feel so welcome and cared for! We will be back, and we will spread the news about the best place to stay in downtown Charleston.
